Telehealth Physiotherapy

How do I know if my injury is suited to Telehealth Physiotherapy?

The majority of musculoskeletal injuries are able to be managed effectively with Telehealth Physiotherapy. There are some neurological conditions that are also suited to online physiotherapy appointments. Whether this is an option for you depends on your functional level, your symptoms and therapy goals. These are best determined on a case-by-case basis, send us an email, and we will let you know!

Will my Telehealth Physiotherapist let me know if I need to see a Physiotherapist or Doctor in person?

While there are many injuries that can be managed via Telehealth Physiotherapy, some conditions do require 'hands on' assessment and treatment. All of our physios are skilled at determining when an injury requires face to face investigation. If we feel that your injury or situation is not at all suitable for an online consultation by a Physiotherapist, we will let you know, and refund the cost of the consultation. We can also organise a face-to-face appointment with our team or help you find a suitable physiotherapist in your area.

How can a Physio make a diagnosis without touching me?

Regardless of whether you see a Physiotherapist in person or via Telehealth, all Physiotherapy sessions start with a 'subjective assessment'. This is where your physio will ask you a series of questions designed to discover what they need to know about your injury. This is all done without touching you. By the end of the subjective assessment, the Physio should already have a clear idea of your probable diagnosis. The Physio may then perform some tests to confirm this, some of these are completed by observing your movement patterns. If we are ever unsure of your diagnosis, we will not hesitate to recommend you to an on-site Physiotherapist.

How can my physiotherapist treat my injury without touching me?

The traditional view of Physiotherapy involves "hands on" treatment. In reality, this is only a small portion of what Physiotherapists do to assist with your recovery. Educating you about your condition, identifying contributing factors from your lifestyle, as well as instigating a structured and tailored exercise program, are some of the most important things we do.

Over the last few years, Physiotherapy has moved from machine-based treatments and manual techniques, and towards rehabilitation programs carried out under guidance. This puts you in much more control of your own recovery. Research has shown that outcomes can be effective through online consultation.

Do I need any special operating system to complete a Telehealth appointment?

Not at all. Following your booking confirmation, you will receive an email with a direct link to your appointment. All you need to do is click this link at the time of your appointment to meet your Physio. You can complete a Telehealth appointment via a smart phone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer.

We use our Patient Management System, Cliniko and our exercise prescription programme, Physitrack to complete our online Telehealth appointments. For any online group classes, this is completed through Google Meets. All of these systems provide safe and secure video capabilities.

How can I prepare for my Telehealth appointment?

There are a few things that can help your Telehealth appointment run smoothly. Ensure you set up for your appointment in an area within minimal distractions that allows space to complete exercises. You will need a smart device with a camera such as a smart phone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer. You will need access to an internet connection and ability to access your email address where we will send you the direct link for your Telehealth appointment.
